We own and and operate a few websites related to design, marketing, hosting, support and training. With a background in marketing from corporate America, the first domain name we registered was a marketing website "netpromotions.com" on December 3, 1996. Our initial goal was to take traditional "brick and mortar businesses and introduce them to the internet. In the beginning there was only one way to register a domain name; network solutions, AOL was the main internet provider, and netscape was the dominant web browser and search engine.
We created our first website using a program from Adobe called Pagemill which still sits on our bookshelf today. Over the last 22 years, we’ve accumulated a vast amount of knowledge and resources that we now share with our clients.
On December 3, 2021, we celebrated 25 years in the internet business. Some of our memorable events are as follows:
We registered our first domain through Network Solutions (netpromotions.com).
Our first internet provider was AOL.
Our first modem speed was 24k then upgraded to 56k.
We were one of the first GoDaddy resellers in Miami, Florida.
Our first Apple computer was a MacPlus.
Our first Windows computer was a Dell with Windows 95.
Our first spreadsheet was Lotus 1-2-3.
Our first accounting software was PeachTree Accounting.
Our first word processor was WordPerfect.
Our first desktop publishing software was Aldus PageMaker.
Our first graphics software was Adobe Photoshop.
Our first integrated web development tool was Macromedia Dreamweaver.
Plus so much more.
Using the current "Yellow Pages Directory" as a guide back in 1996, we built our first website as a directory, and listed those business in this directory under their proper category. We offered basic test only listings and for people that wanted to stand out, we created nice attractive logos and banners. We started building websites under the netpromotions.com name for a few years but quickly found out that people really couldn't find our web design services under the name netpromotions.
We then decided to expand our design business into a separate division and opened affordable web sites. Before choosing this name, we did our own research of how many times a person searched for a variety of different keywords.
We registered the domain affordablewebsites.net on May 14, 1999 and expanded our internet services to include website design and development. We took this website from its infancy when “netscape” was a dominant search engine, all the way to the top of google, yahoo and bing search engines.
We've learned from the failure and success of others. Every member in our chain enjoys what he or she does, which reduces turnover and eliminates mistakes. Just tell us what you want and we'll make it affordable.
The technical term for a domain name is A domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority or control within the Internet. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS). Any name registered in the DNS is a domain name. Domain names are used in various networking contexts and application-specific naming and addressing purposes.
In general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP) resource, such as a personal computer used to access the Internet, a server computer hosting a web site, or the web site itself or any other service communicated via the Internet. In 2017, 330.6 million domain names had been registered.
Picking a domain name is extremely important, it's advisable that you choose a name that follows these basic rules:
A domain name that reflects on what you do.
A domain name that contains keywords related to your industry that people may search for.
A domain name that you can recite in passing in the mall without complications.
We accomplish this by investing in continuous training, professional tools and services. We chose our clients and vendors carefully. We've streamlined our systems and billing processes to spend our time designing and not on bookkeeping.
We don't have any frills (like a fancy office, toll free number, excessive staff, etc.), we closed our original brick and mortar office in 1999. In addition, we do not have thousands of clients; we only accept the amount of clients that our staff can handle. "We Won't Brag About How Many Clients We Have, We'd Rather Brag About How We Treat The Clients We Have". This gives us the ability to provide "big company" services, with a "small company price, service and support" .
Since no two projects are the same, our initial FREE consultation will tell us what type of server to use, how much disk space you need, what type (if any) eCommerce solution is best for you and so much more. We'll match your needs with the tools and services necessary to effectively produce a winning formula. Our portfolio will give you a sample of our capabilities. To protect your investment, we constantly search your competitors and industry looking for ways to upgrade your project. In addition, we've learned from the failure and success of others. Every member in our chain enjoys what he or she does, which reduces turnover and eliminates mistakes. Just tell us what you want and we'll make it affordable. Remember, no two designers are alike and don't judge a designer by his/her hourly rate. For example, we had a company offer to assist us with web design, charging only $20 an hour. We asked them to give us a quote on a simple project that we had completed, but wanted to see if it was cost effective to have them redo it. They advised us that it would take 40 hours to complete an upgrade. We charge $60 an hour, but that same upgrade would only take 5 hours to complete. You can clearly see that a lower hourly rate does not always compute to a more economical rate. An experienced designer may charged a little more hourly rate, but take less time to complete a project, that's the bottom line. We have a web blog that we use to keep my clients informed and provides a wealth of self help stuff that can be used to solve simple issues. In addition, you can learn about design, marketing, hosting, security and much more. Our blog address is http://affordablewebblog.com.
Although WordPress is now being used for complete web design and content management systems, we still use it as it's original purpose. Being a designer, these online editors are not our first choice, but we are not against using them just like a landscaper is not against you owning and using a lawnmower. We have a demo of everything we offer on a separate website. We'll be happy to show you samples of online stores, galleries, navigational systems, content management systems, page dividers, banners, logos and more. Building a website is an investment in time. money and resources, our demos will hopefully help you make a smart decision.
Of course as these features are updated, we update our demos. Our Pricing Is Simple, We Work With Your Budget...PERIOD!
